For Artprize in Grand Rapids Michigan I created the Grand Rapid. It is composed of 12' of chain link fence, 7 pieces of rebar and 500lbs of green and clear bottles and jars. The installation was partly inspired by the rapids near the downtown damn, but there are tons of little inspirations that led up to it.

I have been experimenting with ways to reformulate the stiff bottle glass so that it flows more like water. This is what makes the ladled glass installations possible and allows the furnace to run at a lower temperature.

I designed the frame to collapse forward so at the end of the show I removed the pins and the wave came crashing down. Water will be a recurring theme...homage to the Muddy Mississippi and Lake MI are in the works...
